Gopher Guys, aka Rodent Guys, are the gopher extermination experts in Southern California. Gopher Guys offers both traditional and pet friendly gopher extermination services.
Gopher control in Southern California has taken a shift in the past few years. Laws have changed, available poisons have changed and many companies have stopped providing gopher service or have gone out of business.
Rodent Guys has evolved with the ever changing gopher control efforts here in So Cal. After the availability of effective poison diminished, Rodent Guys moved to non-poison methods as their main control method. Although non-poison methods were available for years from Rodent Guys, it has now moved to the go-to method for gopher extermination.
Gopher traps are used underground in the tunnel system. The traps are set in various area of the yard where the technician knows the gopher will travel. As the gopher passes through the tunnel and runs into to trap it closes in on the rodent. Traps are set and then checked in 2-8 days depending on the schedule and technician recommendation.
After the traps are checked, carbon monoxide may be used in the tunnels. This optional method is used in most of the initial gopher removal clean outs. The carbon monoxide is injected into the burrows to push out all the available oxygen.
The rodents in the burrow system that come into contact with the carbon monoxide perish in the tunnel system. In these cases the gopher body is not retrieved. This second extermination method is a good back up to the trapping efforts.
The guarantee for gophers is 60 days from start of the control process. Once the initial trip(s) is completed, all gopher mounds will be flattened out. If you see more mounds you will know you have had more gophers move in. During the guarantee period you can call Rodent Guys back out at no additional cost.
Moles are much tougher to control than gophers. Moles have a larger tunnel system. The diameter of the tunnel is very narrow. Your index finger will normally have a snug fit into the tunnel. However, the length of the tunnel is very extensive.
Controlling moles is done with trapping, carbon monoxide and a low strength poison. Methods are determined by the soil conditions, customer’s requests and technician’s feeling.
When traps are deployed they are placed across the tunnel system. The traps are normally placed in several places around the yard. The number of traps is based on how much tunnel is visible and soil conditions.
Carbon Monoxide can also be injected into the tunnel. When the tunnel is filled the oxygen level in the tunnel falls below a livable amount. The challenge with moles is that they can be several properties away, because their tunnel system is that large.
Low dose poison can also be used for moles. Unlike gopher poison, mole poison is low strength and much safer. A pet or non target animals that eats mole bait is normally not going to be in a lot of danger. The bait is designed to kill a mole which is the size of a mouse with a similar body weight to one.
Mole service comes with a 60 day guarantee from the start of the project. If more activity is seen during the guarantee Rodent Guys can be called back out at no cost.
Ground squirrels are a common problem in Southern California. Unlike a gopher or mole, squirrels live both below and above ground. Their burrows are used to sleep, hide and live among their communal family members.
Squirrels can removed with several different methods. The methods range from trapping to carbon monoxide to poison. Poisons are normally done in commercial applications.
Trapping ground squirrels is our normal technique for controlling them. Traps are set in places where squirrels will be able to get access to them and get caught in the traps. We normally use traps that hold several squirrels in each trap.
Traps need to be checked each day by either the property owner or tenant. If this is not possible, Rodent Guys will check traps each day. This is not the preferred method because it increases the costs.
Carbon monoxide gas can be injected into the squirrels burrows. As the gas is injected it pushes the oxygen out of the system. Once the environment is below a livable level the ground squirrels will perish underground.
This effective method has good results. The downfall to this method is it only effects the ground squirrels that are in the tunnel at the time of treatment.
Rodent Guys does not like poisons used for animals unless necessary. In places where Rodent Guys agrees to use it, it will be placed in bait stations that do not allow animals larger than a squirrel to enter. Eliminating all ground squirrels can be challenge and not possible in some urban locations.
Treating one property will not eliminate the ground squirrel population in the city. Grounds squirrels seen on the property are not always living on the property. Often times they visit from nearby properties and are difficult to treat since they only visit from time to time. For these reasons we do not guarantee ground squirrels. We will be able to thin out the population, and it’s possible to eliminate squirrels living on your property.
From the name Rodent Guys, there is no doubt what our specialty is. From rats in the attic to raccoons, opossums and skunks, all are covered by Rodent Guys.
Raccoon trapping, along with opossum and skunks, is another common call. Our licensed trappers will set traps for skunks or other animals with bait to lure them in. All trapping for opossums and other large animals will be done with in the laws set forth by the Department of Fish and Game. Trapped animals are euthanized with high powered pellet guns and cast air rifle bullets.
When animals have gone into the attic and used the insulation as a bathroom it is recommended to remove the insulation and replace with new fresh insulation. The attic insulation is removed with a large vacuum and put into disposable bags located outside.
